My name is Jovan Marinkovic.
I was born in Kruševac (Serbia) in 1965, my father is Serbian and my mother
was Greek, due to which I have both the Serbian and Greek citizenship.
I entered the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade and they accepted me in the second
year immediately as extremely talented, which happened only three times in the
history of that state school.
I have graduated from that faculty and after that I won a Master's degree on
the Chair for drawing in 1991.
Because of a disagreement with the official exhibiting policy which was present
on the Belgrade scene of fine arts, due to negative selection and corruption,
I had a conflict with powerful men, because of which it was almost made impossible
for me to exhibit. Despite all these difficulties, I still had three very significant
exhibitions in Belgrade:
The first one was the Master's degree exhibition in the gallery of my Faculty
in 1991.
The next one was in Kolarceva Gallery in 1994.
In the end, the last one was in one of the most eminent galleries in Serbia,
the Culture Centre in Belgrade, in the heat of bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999.
One of the most eminent Serbian art critics Nikola Kusovac wrote the preface
for this exhibition.
I have been painting ever since my earliest childhood.
I mostly deal with figural, expressionist painting. Such painting ranges from
realism to fantasy. Fantasy, however is what interests me the most, and figuration
is also a rest from imagining, but its toughest construction as well.
The paintings presented on the site have been created in the period from 2000
until the present days in the technique of acrylic. The formats are not big;
the biggest one is 1m by 80 cm.
I live and work in Belgrade.

Je suis né a Krusevac (Serbie) en 1965. Mon pere est Serbe, ma mere est
Grecque et c’est pour ça que j’ai double nationalité.
Je me suis inscrit a la Faculté des arts a Belgrade directement en deuxieme
année comme exceptionnellement doué, ce qui ne s’est passé
que trois fois dans l’histoire de la faculté.
Quand j’ai fini mes études, j’ai passé une maîtrise
a la chaire de dessin en 1991.
A cause de la corruption et la sélection negative qui était actuelle
dans les galeries a Belgrade, je me suis affronté avec les hommes d’autorité
et je ne pouvais pas exposer mes oeuvres pendant un certain temps.
Malgré tout, j’ai eu trios expositions tres remarquables.La premiere
était dans la galerie de ma faculté (quand j’ai passé
ma maîtrise) en 1991.
Puis, en 1994, dans la Galerie de Kolarac.
Enfin, dans une des galeries les plus appreciée chez nous, celle du Centre
culturel de Belgrade, pendant le bombardement en 1999.La préface pour
cette exposition a eté écrite par un des crititiques d’art
les plus réputés - Nikola Kusovac.
Il me semble que je fait de la painture depuis toujours.
Je ne fais que de la peinture figurative, expressionniste. Cette peinture évolue
du réalisme a la fiction. La fiction est pourtant ce qui m’intéresse
le plus, et la figuration est le repos de l’imagination et aussi sa construction
(de la fiction) la plus solide.
Les peintures qui se trouvent sur ce site sont créée dans la période
entre les année 2000 et 2004 et ce sont les peintures acryliques.
Les formats ne sont pas grands (le plus grand est 100x80)
